| What is chlorinated drinking water? |
| Chlorinated drinking water is drinking water that has had chlorine added to it as a disinfectant agent. Drinking water supplies were first chlorinated at the turn of the century, and over the following two decades chlorination was introduced for disinfection purposes of drinking water in most industrialized countries. In chlorinated drinking water, chlorine reacts mainly with natural water constituents to produce a complex mixture of by-products, including a wide variety of halogenated compounds. Aside from leaving unpleasant tastes and odors in the drinking water, chlorinated drinking water is considered relatively harmless. However, users of excessively chlorinated drinking water may experience irritated eyes and nose. Home Page | FAQs | Glossary | Contact Us |
